It is with sadness that we report the passing of former MD of Mitcham City Brass, Gary Bishop. We extend our sincere condolences to his family.

From the South Australian Band Association’s website..

“It is with sadness that we report the passing of GARY BISHOP.

As the notice in the Sydney Morning Herald says “He has gone to join the big band in the sky”.

Many in South Australia will remember Gary’s energetic and committed contribution to banding while he lived here. He conducted Mitcham City Brass, as it was then, in the late nineties and early 2000s. It was while conducting the Band at the Mitcham Carols event in 2000 that he had the stroke that ended his playing and conducting days. He also played Solo Euphonium for K & N during his stay in SA.

He was aged 60 and had been living in Waitara and had also lived in Melbourne as well as Adelaide.

He was a contributor to SABA’s activities and the President and Committee members wish to acknowledge his contribution to SA banding as do the members of Mitcham Brass.

The funeral service is being held on 13 April at the McQuoin Park Chapel, Pacific Highway, Waitara, NSW.”
