At this year’s City Of Mitcham Australia Day event, Mitcham City Brass was awarded the  ‘Community Event of the Year’, for the work done in organising and presenting the Mitcham Band Festival.

The Australia Day Awards are presented to ‘provide unique recognition of the outstanding work of residents or members of the wider community who impact City of Mitcham and are part of Council’s commitment to strengthening community participation.’

The award was presented by the mayor of Mitcham,  Heather Holmes-Ross to our chairperson, Peter Milter. Also on hand to receive the award were band members Joanne Cross, Ian Collins and Peter and Ruth McIntyre.

Since its inception, the Mitcham Band Festival has grown from an idea to become a very successful event, not only for the City of Mitcham community, but the community of Adelaide. The 2019 Festival
exceeded everyone’s expectations, and its success has showcased the Mitcham area, the Vogue Theatre and Mitcham City Brass globally.

This year’s festival looks like being even bigger with the event now running over three days from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 May 2020 and more community bands joining the event.
